about

Rodhånd (Roothand) (15:49) Take 2 of 2. The guitar
is tuned in D, A, D, G, A, D. The harmonica is a D
harp and I add a little Rainstick, as well as a Banjo
(standing in the guitar stand so it is within reach).
The banjo is tuned in D. Guitar Tuning (DADGAD)
was reportedly "invented/imported" by folk/world
musician Davy Graham after his trip to Morocco in
the late 1950s. It is a very round, open and soft tuning
with a good feel for the drone and ostinates. It is a bit
like a running river that you want to disappear into.

It is often used today in Scottish folk music. To me,
"Rodhånd" contains more of a process than an actual
finished result. It fumbles quietly as it discovers the
world for the first time as it repeats itself over and
over. “Rodhånd" is recorded in the summer, and it is
the longing for the fall of decay that is played in here.
It is the smell of the leaves' dissolution, lying
fermented in the forest floor. It is the roar of the
wind at the tips of the waves, dancing on the outer
edges, while you can taste the salt in your mouth.
“Rodhånd is dedicated to Robbie Basho (1940–1986).
Some artists is reaching out, others is reaching in and
disappear until they dissolve, Robbie Basho was one
of those. He reached in as far as he could and never
really got out. He stayed in there.
